I love to tinker, and I especially like to build things that can do something at a distance. There have been maybe half a dozen iteration of remote controlled tanks that I've gone through:
a Lego Mindstorms tank controlled from the computer that shot Lego pieces a foot or two
a second Lego Mindstorms tank controlled by a Palm m100 that shot Lego pieces 10 to 20 feet
a modified remote controlled car that shot water 15 to 20 feet from a half litre tank
the first Manchurian Catapult which shot soybeans at my students in Tai'an, China
the second iteration of the Manchurian Catapult shot fireworks and was the hit of new years at my apartment complex
I turned my roomba into a helicopter carrier for a short while, but abandoned it pretty quickly because it didn't end up being very useful
The Manchurian Catapult wasn't the most interesting from a design perspective, but it was by far the most popular since I could shoot it indoors:
