Remote Controlled Tanks

I love to tinker, and I especially like to build things that can do something at a distance. There have been maybe half a dozen iteration of remote controlled tanks that I've gone through:

  • a Lego Mindstorms tank controlled from the computer that shot Lego pieces a foot or two
  • a second Lego Mindstorms tank controlled by a Palm m100 that shot Lego pieces 10 to 20 feet
  • a modified remote controlled car that shot water 15 to 20 feet from a half litre tank
  • the first Manchurian Catapult which shot soybeans at my students in Tai'an, China
  • the second iteration of the Manchurian Catapult shot fireworks and was the hit of new years at my apartment complex
  • I turned my roomba into a helicopter carrier for a short while, but abandoned it pretty quickly because it didn't end up being very useful

The Manchurian Catapult wasn't the most interesting from a design perspective, but it was by far the most popular since I could shoot it indoors:
